If you embed the FollowMee map in your web site, you might notice a warning message:

Quote:

A google maps feature used on this page is changing soon. Custom map content will need to be migrated.

The current way of embedding map feeds a custom KML data stream to Google Maps. And Google mentioned to us that from February 2015, maps created in the classic Google Maps (https://maps.google.com/) will no longer load KML/KMZ files from external websites. As a result, this procedure needs to be changed.

1. If you merely generate a public URL for your shared location (dynamic or static), you are not affected. This procedure has not changed.

2. The new procedure will not use the iFrame string. Instead, it requires you to insert some javascript codes in the head section of your web page. As a result, this approach might not work in your Facebook page.

3. If you are embedding the static map, you need to go to the static past tracks section of your account page, and follow the new instruction to redo your map.

4. If you are embedding the dynamic (live) map, you need to subscribe to the web service api. Use this link http://www.followmee.com/services.aspx for subscription. After that, you will see the share location button in your account page.

5. The new approach is more complex but it is more robust. Your embedded map is always refreshed upon page reload. In the old way, Google Map always caches the KML stream and this results in your embedded map showing out-of-date location. This is no longer an issue under the new approach.

Hi

It says "Web Service API feeds location data to your own application or web page. It returns data in JSON or KML format.''

So it just gives the data but no map? So it doesn''t automatically display it on a map that we can put on our website and we have to do more work to put it on a map?

Could you also send the exact code to put in to have it show and update the map using the web service api and which mapping service needs to be used?

Our site does not work most of the time. It started out having live tracking then it would be 24 hours before you could see tracks. We are not very happy with this site.

My device has not updated the location since 1/26/15. How do I know how I am "embedding"?? I don''t understand any of your instructions.

I simply log in to your site and view the location.

For $1.99 per month, I would expect a lot more than just a JSON or KML file. Much as I liked FollowMee, unless this changes, they have priced themselves out of the market.
