I'm using this so that sponsors can track my progress trekking up Mount Snowdon for charity, 30 mins is not too bad as it's a 3 hour trek but as this then draws a line of site line it will look like I travelled over huge terrains on a Satellite view.

Can I manually trigger an update instead of waiting for the auto refresh or is that caught up on the same WP restraints?

Thanks.

Yes, you can manually force the update by pressing the stop button. Wait a few seconds, then press the start button.

This is not possible. This is the limitation of the windows phone 8 platform. This OS only allows the app to wake up every 30 minutes to obtain location.

Can you please explain where this 30 minute restriction comes from? On Windows Phone 8 the Geolocator.ReportInterval property is not documented as having a 30 minute minimum.

There are examples of code setting the interval far lower.

Thanks.

This is the constraint of the periodic agent. For more details, see this microsoft page

One would have hoped that Microsoft would have lifted this restriction for phones which were on charge power, for example when in a powered car cradle. But I'm afraid Microsoft appear to be brain-dead these days. Must be run by children with very low IQ and no real life experience :)
This is a GREAT app. Sadly limited by Microsoft's stupidity.

Windows Phone 8.1 now has geo-location API support and can be run in the background. Looks like the links below could help.

Geolocation sample:

Windows.Devices.Geolocation namespace:

Is there any news on reducing the time period with the windows 8.1 update?

Are the developers updating the app to take advantage of the new geo-location in 8.1?

Any timescales?

I really don`t understand this long time period.
I installed a windows 8 APP that the period is 30 seconds.

The phones I am tracking now update every 20 minutes instead of 30. I haven''t changed settings on any of them, it is just happening automatically.

Dear Followmee team member,

I am considering to subscribe to your API service. But at the moment the 30 minute update interval from my windows 8.1 phone is way to long for me to be of any good use. (I want to be able to report my location to my Home automation system and trigger events based on it).
Is there any new insight in how the interval can be reduced to for instance 5 minutes. Or maybe an auto update when it senses a location change?

thanks in advance,

Martijn.
